- <p> "Boy, I got a wake-up call/ and it left a message that/ you
- just don't care at all." Welcome to the soulful, soured-love
- R. and B. of TONI BRAXTON. With a smoky contralto, a debut gold
- album, and a Top 10 single, Braxton, 25, seems destined for
- pop diva-dom. Ironic, given that Braxton, the daughter of a
- fundamentalist minister, was only permitted to listen to gospel
- music growing up. Confesses the ex-church choir member: "At
- home I'd sneak into empty rooms to watch Soul Train."
